LCD & Plasma TVs Projectors
Which to choose, LCD Plasma or projector? What size ? Wall or stand mount ? HD ready
Its all a bit confusing, isn't it. But here are some tips to help you decide.
Step 1. Decide on a size - measure your viewing distance and convert to inches, divide this number by 5 and the same number by 8. Multiply each of these by 2. You now have roughly the biggest and smallest size screen you should consider. You can of course go up or down a few inches without any ill effects, but not too far or you may be squinting (too small) or panning your eyes (too big) e.g. viewing distance 6 ft = 72" 72¸5 = 14.4 x2 = 29 72¸8 =9 x2 =18 so for a 6ft viewing dist, a 19" - 32" would be OK.
Step 2 . LCD or Plasma, or projector. Using your result from Step 1, if you are below 40" as the biggest size, forget plasma or projector. Plasma's start at around 40" and projectors screens at about 60", so , easy, you have to go LCD. Above 40" the world is your oyster, so here are a few more things to consider. Light room - LCD better, dark room, plasma or projector better. Have kids who like to pause sattelite or cable TV, then go off and forget about it ? : go LCD, they don't burn in. Like to turn the telly on to quickly catch the news? : forget projector, they can take up to 2 minutes to warm up, and need to cool all the way down again before firing up.
But if you have a dedicated huge room, that's nice and dark, with no kiddy fingers to mess things up, nothing beats the scale of a good projector and screen.
